Gandal wiped at his eyes with his shirt, slowling down for the otherstp catch up; not that he wanted the company right now but he couldn't care less.

Kai caught up with Gandal quickly and walked beside him. "Are you okay?" she asked, genuinely concerned.

'Course!' He said, his voice croaking.

She stopped and placed a hand to his chest to stop him. "No your not. What's wrong Gandal? Please tell me. I don't want to drag information out of you."

'Memories, that's all.' He faked a smile, slowly removing her hand.

She clenched her hand into a fist and looked down. "It's your family isn't it? I've been having the same thing. But we can't let that get in the way. We have to keep going." She looked up at him. "Be strong for me. Please."

Gandal made no reply, but simply, nodded. He continued through the rubble and destruction half walking and half waiting for tentacles to rip him to shreds.

Kai didn't keep going. She held her fist by her side and looked at the ground. Nothing went the way it should anymore. She wanted it all back. The people, the Outliers, the laughter. No-one laughed anymore. Instead, the night and day was filled with silence and fear.

Gandal turned, 'come on Kai!' Despair creeper into his voice, the fog turning him into a feint silhouette.

She looked up and unclenched her fists. "Alright," she said bitterly, moving towards him. She grabbed her bow from her torso and clenched her fist around that. She stormed past Gandal and grabbed an arrow. "This is going to be a long day," she mumbled.

Gandal made no reply but rested his hand on the hilt of his sword. The sword he had found around five weeks ago in a museum he had scavenged through.

She didn't know what was going to happen. She didn't want to. A tear welled in her eye and she wiped it away quickly. No, she thought. Family is not allowed to cloud my judgment.

Suddenly a screech filled the silence and a shadows was revealed in the distance, moving quickly. Creepers, Gandal assumed. Creepers were small monsters, covered with that oozing black substance. They would dodge from place to place, striking at you with their claws like razors.

She shot three of them within ten seconds of seeing them. Kai had always been an excellent shot. Gandal had even said so himself. She was exceptional in everything.

Gandal wouldn't use his sword with this one. He pulled out his revolver, firing at the shadows being replied with horrible screeches.

She grabbed a dagger from her thigh and rushed the creepers and sliced them. Black blood splashing onto her body. She didn't know why but she was enjoying this. She didn't want to but she did.

Gandal sighed noticing how Kai was enjoying the activity. 'Thanks?' He mumbled half heartedly.

When all of the creepers were gone, she stopped. Staggering and holding her hand to her head, she said, "Gandal... What's happening to me?" She fell onto her hands and knees.

He looked at her, the seemingly innocent girl cloaked with black blood, now on the ground... guess they haven't actually killed before... that would explain how the village lacked so many defenses...

"I know what you're thinking Stelios. I have killed these beasts before. But this was the first time I have enjoyed doing so. What has happened to me?"

He took a step back, seeing what was now the case.... He was scared, especially due to the fact that he sometimes felt the same way, grinning as the black blood would splash over him...
"I dont know..." He muttered, looking down.

Kai walked in front of the group then stopped. "We should keep going. It gets more dangerous at night." She kept going and hoped that the others would follow her.

He lurked behind, taking the time to let the night consume him -- not enough to make him transform, of course, but just enough to make him feel at ease.

A tear fell down her cheeck as she walked. Nothing was going to be easy from now on. She pulled a branch off a tree and covered it in oil. She lit it and kept walking. The light gave her some comfort.

Gandal inhaled the smoke filled air as he walked, not knowing what to say nor do.
