"Same here," she said as she noticed the tires. "Drats. We'll have to walk then?"

"Most probably. There goes the idea of giving that guy his car back." He said, chuckling as he began to walk down the road, hiding in the shadows of nearby houses.

"That isn't funny and you know it. I'll call a tow truck when we get to town." She walked behind Jack in silence. How does Jack know where this guy lives anyway?

"Why be gloomy?" He asked, not moving his head to look at her gaze. Gandal smiled again, one of those mischievous smiles.

Kai's face turned to confusion. Was he smiling? She moved her head to get a better look. Yep, he was smiling. "What are you smiling about?" she asked flatly.

"Oh? Nothing." The smile broadened extensively. "Why aren't you smiling?"

"Because there is nothing to smile about," she said sternly. "Have you forgotten why we are here?"

Jack scowled at her, the adrenaline slowly subsiding and the smile faded quickly. For the next couple of minutes, he said not a thing.

Kai sighed. "Don't look at me like that." She looked down the road and saw a hotel. She then looked out over the horizon to see the fading light. "We should stop there for the night."

"Understandable." He said, approaching the hotel and a quick pace. He jammed his hands into his pockets, sighing as the cold bit at his skin, sending chills up his spine.

Kai followed Jack as they walked through the hotel. "Do you want me to get the room?"

"Yeah. If you want." He mumbled, stepping into a lush room where a small lady stood behind a red counter. It wasn't the best hotel but it would do them for the night. That was all that counted.

Kai walked up to the counter and asked for a room. She received the key and gave it to Jack. "Room twelve. It's upstairs."

"Thanks." He approached an old elevator, running his fingers across the walls, picking up a fair amount of dust.

"They could clean this place a little more don't you think?" she asked, then sneezed. "Too much dust," she sniffled.

"This is like, 1 star." He mumbled, referring to a poster which was on the wall, advertising the hotel. They briskly stepped into the elevator and whizzed into their directed floor.

"More like no star," Kai grumbled beside him. She gave a small cough. "I hope the room has been cleaned."

"We're gonna see." That grin returned as slotted in the key and gently pushed the door open to reveal dusty furniture. Except, the room hardly contained any furniture. Jack gave off a small chuckle as he entered the room swiftly.

Kai gaped at the room. "This is what I payed $95 for? Geez." She sat on the floor and sighed. "This sucks."

"Oh well." Jack slumped on a nearby lounge which creaked eerily, "At least it is quiet." He smirked, closing his eyes and sighing.

"It won't be for long," she mumbled. They always found them.

"Get some sleep," He said, still closing his eyes, "Tomorrow we find that man that killed Gandal's parents."

Kai shut her eyes. She was exhausted. She quickly fell asleep.

Gandal awoke to the sound of harsh knocking on the door. He went for his gun quickly, approaching Kai, shaking her shoulder once.

"Eh?" she opened her eyes lazily and looked at Gandal. "Five more minutes."
