"What's your profession? I need to know if I am going to stay with you."

"I do not have one Kai." He sighed, "I fight to find out who killed my family, that is all I do."

"Why? Why do you need to know? Why can't you just let it go?"

"My family were the only things I had left." Gandal moaned in pain as a needle was injected into his neck, at least two inches. "MY brothers were older than me and they got caught up with gangs. I loved my family, they did everything for me. When I lost them, I promised myself that I would hunt down who did this to my family and especially for me." He sgiehd momentarily, "Happy now?"

She sighed. "No. I don't understand. How long have you been looking? It's destroying you."

"All my life, Kai." He sighed, "I have deoted myself to it, and I won;t stop until I unravel the truth, even if I have to unravel it strand... by strand."

"I was afraid of that," she mumbled. This, she knew, was not good. Anyone who devoted themselves to a lost cause was bound to unravel sooner or later. She turned to Jack. "How long have you two known each other?"

Jack turned his head to Kai, "At least four years, you?"

"A couple of days. That's how long you had been asleep Gandal. It must of felt like a couple of hours."

Gandal laughed, but Jack interrupted before he could say anything, "Ah okay. I am just about finished what I have to do."

"Why do you laugh Gandal? I am serious. You slept for two days." She looked at him worried.

Gandal ignored her. "I am done." Jack said, "Gandal you need to rest for a bit more." And with that Jack got up and walked out of the lounge room.

Kai walked over and sat in the chair that Jack had just left. "How are you feeling?" she asked.

"I am alright." He said, tempted to touch his neck. "How are you?"

"Why are you asking me this question? I'm not the one who got shot. But I'm alright." She sighed. "But thanks for asking all the same."

"Jack is a good person, y'know?" He said, "He helped me with stuff." His voice trailed off, "I am gonna rest now." He smiledb before turning his head into the pile of pillows, sleep slowly coming to him.

"I guess we both should. It's getting dark." She leaned back in her chair and shut her eyes. Sleep came quickly and unexpectadly.

Aragon watched the two from behind a bin, he seemed curious and wanted to know more about their business.

The two slept, awoke from the twittering of birds and rustling of leaves.

Kai found it difficult to open her eyes. Light flooded the room and she saw Gandal. She leaned forward. "Morning. How are you feeling?"

'Exuberant.' Gandal said in his best posh voice as he sprung from a lying posture. 'I think we can go now, we will revisit Jack in a couple of days.' He declared with a sudden clap of his hands.

Kai stood and walked behind Gandal. "So you're not even going to say goodbye."
