Kristina looked around fearfully. "W-What do we do...?"

"Wait, I guess." He tried to take his mind away from the creatures which had pursued them on their trek up the elevator. Joseph sighed, moving away from the ledge of the hospital tower, moving over to the center of the structure, "It's the only thing we can do." He added.

Kristina nodded and laid on her back, her legs barely allowing her to sit up.

Joseph then bolted to his feet at the sound of something slapping at the door of the elevator shaft, recoiling at the sound. "What the hell are they...?" He finally said, to no one in particular. He ran up to the locked door, pressing his back against them.

Kristina looked nervous. "I don't know..."

The slapping of metal finally ceased and he exhaled with relief, slowly moving away from the two padlocked doors, scrambling across the concrete until he was leaning against the roof edge. All he could hear was his thorough breathing and the lapping of water.

Kristina watched him sadly.

Joseph gave one last glance at the water below, before closing his eyes - letting his thoughts drift away, just like what his parents had done.

Kristina watched him nervously.

As his eyes closed, the thoughts of his parents drifted back to him, the tendrils filled with memories lashing at his subconsciousness, flooding him with negative thoughts until his eyes snapped open and he stumbled to his feet. "Dad! Mum!" He screamed atop the building, his words echoing around the desolate city, "Mum..." He dropped to the ground, holding back the tears, "Dad..."

Kristina looked at him, tears slipping down her own face. "Dad..."

Joseph looked at Kristina, a tear falling down his cheek, he then looked back at the roof ledge, pressing his back against it, before clambering over the ledge noiselessly. "A swim..." He stammered, bringing one leg over the ledge, "A swim is what I need."

Kristina shot up to a sitting position and she called to him. "Joseph! Get back here! Those things are still in the water!"

"A swim... Mum likes swimming. Dad did too." Joseph laughed, moving his head back, his every sound echoing around him, "I can't live like this Kristina, it's destroyed me, physically and mentally."

Kristina watched him, unable to do anything, sobbing softly. "But what am I supposed to do without you!?"

Suddenly, he stumbled, the rocks rolling beneath his feet as he slipped backward. He moved his hands out to grip something for support, yet found nothing. "No!" He screamed as he tumbled over the ledge, toward the water below.

"JOSEPH!" Kristina launched herself forward with her arms and grabbed his hand as he dangled over the edge.

"Oh my God." His free hand just touched the water, and his other was gripped tightly by Kristina, "I'm so sorry." Joseph shook his head, struggling to haul his body back up over the tower ledge.

Kristina pulled him up as best she could without the use of her legs and they finally managed to pull him over.

Joseph gasped, placing a hand over where his heart would be, feeling it hammer against his ribcage. "I'm so sorry..." He repeated, his voice a low murmur as he lay on the ground, staring at the black clowds.

Kristina was crying as she had pulling him up and she wrapped her arms around herself.

Joseph lay there, guilt flooding through him as rain began to speckle down on him, merging with the tears which trickled down his pale cheeks.

Kristina was trembling and rocking herself back and forth as she cried.

Abruptly, something slammed through the shaft doors, tentacles whipping through the darkness and the doors which flung from their hinges. Joseph scrambled to his feet, picking up a metal pole which he brandished with menace. "Get back!" He shouted to Alana defiantly.

Kristina's eyes widened and she scrambled back as best she could.
