Joseph then stopped at the elevator doors at the end of the hallway. "If we can get these doors open. We should be able to..." He thought for a moment, pressing a hand against the metal doors, "We should be able to climb up the elevator shaft."

Kristina looked nervous about this idea. "I-I suppose..."

He looked at her, "It's the only way. If we don't get to the top floor, we'll drown to death." Joseph gulped, his own words making him shudder, "I'm going to see if I can find something which can pry open these doors." He gave her a pat on the shoulder, before placing her back on her feet with ease before moving into one of the hospital rooms.

Kristina instantly dropped as she was set on her feet and she scrambled to grab hold of a floating bed. "I-I can't feel my legs!"

Joseph reeled back through the door, empty handed as he rushed over to Kristina, "What do you mean?" He looked at her legs, holding one in a grimy hand, "They were fine before, right?"

Kristina looked panicked. "I-I don't know, they just suddenly hurt really bad and now I can't feel them!"

"This is not good," He muttered as he straightened her legs out on the floating bed, "Try keeping them straight or at least trying to move them whenever you feel as if you can." His voice was fast, filled with desperation, determination and stress - all three emotions mingling to make up his quivering voice which trembled once every minute.

Kristina nodded softly and looked down at her bruised and swollen legs.

Joseph then rushed back toward another hospital room, parallel from the one he had just came out of - rummaging through shelves, looking under beds, looking through the water and even in the manholes which were left open.

Kristina watched him worriedly.

Joseph, triumphant with his discovery, he returned with a barely rusted crowbar which was as big as his arm. "This should be able to pry both doors open a few centimetres," He said, noticing the water had risen. He then gently pushed Alana's hospital bed out of the way, placing the crowbar between each door, before pushing it away.

Kristina watched, unable to do anything else.

Finally, the doors moved open, after an elongated few minutes of screeching. "Kristina." He left the crowbar in the door to ensure it didn't close on itself, "You ready you're going to need to climb up the shaft of the elevator - make sure you have a good grip on everything." Joseph wiped perspiration from his forehead as he brought her bed to the doors of the elevator. "Tell me when you're ready.

Kristina's eyes widened fearfully. "I can't possibly climb without my legs!"

"You can use your arms, drag yourself up. I'll be behind you to help with the movement of your legs. It's going to be fine." Joseph said as he looked back, hearing a rather loud splash. Instantly, he saw the creatures with tentacles heading toward them, mouths agape - revealing razor sharp teeth. "NOW!" He roared, helping her from her bed and out into the shaft of the elevator. Joseph pressed her against the ledge of the shaft, not looking down at the gaping hole where the elevator would come up.

Kristina gasped and started to scramble up the shaft with her arms. "What the hell is that thing!?"

"It's nothing to worry about." He said soothingly as he pushed her upward, they had about ten metres before they were at the final floor. "Nothing to wo-" He was interrupted by one of the creatures which came through the two doors, tentacles slapping over metal as if screeched rather loudly. "Just keep going." He said, helping Kristina's feet move up, clambering onto other ledges, "Don't look back."

Kristina's hands were shaking in fear and she almost fell once but kept going.

More creatures spilled into the gloom filled shaft, some falling down the seemingly endless hole, but the other began climbing up - using their sticky tendrils for support.

Kristina was breathing heavily and she tried to move as fast as she could and could see the opening.

"Go, now." He said, pushing her up through the shaft and onto the top floor. Once she was out, he looked at the monsters which crawled up toward him, blood dripping from their fangs. "Oh God..." He muttered as he pulled a lighter from his pocket - something he'd stolen from his Mother before going to school.

Kristina clambered onto the roof and she looked back down the shaft. "Joseph! Come on!"

Joseph aimed at one of the squids, flicking the lighter on before throwing it down it's mouth. Gagging from the horrid smell they brought, he began to clamber back up the shaft toward the entrance, as the squid behind him exploded, flames whipping from the slimy form. He jumped at the entrance, and slid himself onto the roof, groaning as he did so.

Kristina helped him up as best she could and quickly slammed the opening to the shaft shut.

"Thank you." He inhaled rather loudly, scrambling to his feet as he looked down from the rooftop. The water had flooded the whole city and had surpassed most buildings.
