Alana slowly put her eyes to the eyepiece and messed around with the dials for a moment then pulled away and looked up at him silently, as if asking the point of that.

"We like to examine the blood regulary to see if the DNA of a defective clone changes as time passes. When one or two does, it means we need to come up with a new cure. That's my dilemna right now."

Alana looked back at the blood. "So what am I supposed to do?"

"What do you see in that red blood? Something different. Something special?" He asked, pushing his glasses up to his eyes.

Alana looked back into the microscope and said. "There's the blood cells... and something else..." She zoomed in, until it was as zoomed in as it could get. "See?" She asked showing him.

"Black spots - that's the negative DNA which spreads through defective clones. In this sample, the darkness is travelling through the cells at a much quicker rate than average - as are many other samples." He exhaled loudly, "Would you know why?"

Alana shrugged and said. "Maybe it's because the negative DNA is stronger do to defects in genetic design, I don't know about you but making clones that are stronger doesn't seem like it would be something accidental to me. Maybe someone was purposely adding the more powerful DNA to the embrio and didn't expect this kind of outcome."

Victor smiled, "I didn't think of that myself, but why would a stronger DNA be added to the clones? Would you think it's purposeful?" He asked, looking at her with recognition.

Alana shrugged. "Not for me in particular but any insane person or power hungry genius who'd assumed he'd be able to control the clones who had this 'enhanced' DNA would find it purposeful."

"So, someone might be planning on using the clones as... weapons?" He asked, his eyebrows raising and his eyes widening.

Alana nodded. "That's what it seems like."

"Then that means-" Victor turned around at the sound of boots scuffing against the marble floor, giving a wave at his apprentice which entered the room.

"Mornin'." Chase said rather gleefully, pulling the white lab coat around his skinny body, "Hello Alana."

Alana looked at him. "You were looking in my window yesterday..."

Chase stammered, "Something wrong with me saying hi?" He gave a chuckle, moving over to Victor as he peered down the lens of the microscope before looking back up at Alana.

Alana shrugged. "No."

Victor smiled, "This is Chase, my apprentice." He pat him on the back, before moving over to an assortment of shelves, holding peculiar colored flasks and bottles of strange liquids. He picked up one of the flasks which were filled with a white liquid, bringing it over to Alana and Chase.

Alana watched Victor as he did this, her eyes still dull and void of life but her face looked a little curious.

"This is the cure. Add this to the mixture, please, Chase." He passed the flask over to him, the apprentice pulling out a syringe from his pocket. Victor shuffled next to Alana as the liquid was added, "Take a look at it, Alana."

Alana looked into the microscope for a moment then said. "It's still there."

"Exactly. The blood remains the way it is and there is no kind of 'cure' happening, yet some of the cells and negative DNA dying, yet this defective DNA is much stronger." He muttered his thanks to Chase as he removed the strong defective blood, replacing it with the weaker, original defective blood. "Place the cure in, again." Victor said, ushering the syringe toward the original defective blood. Chase pushed it into the red liquid, the white moving throughout it.

"Now, look at it." Chase said, nudging Alana softly on the elbow as he moved away from the microscope.

Alana looked in the the microscope and said. "It's adaptive."

"Indeed." Victor said, looking down the microscope, watching the white fluid destroy the black blood cells, giving them life. "All we need to do is improve this, and help the defective clones come back to a normal clone."

Alana shook her head. "No, the blood is adaptive." She zoomed in on the blood. "It looks like the cure is killing the black blood cells but in fact..." She zoomed in a little more. "They're hiding." She pointed at the microscope. "They somehow change their size and hide inside the regular blood cells."

Victor Clarence rushed forward rather hastily, one eye widening as he recoiled away from the microscope with one glance into the eyepiece. 'This cannot be right..." He muttered as he rushed off, stammering. He sorted through a pile of papers, shaking his head profusely, "No no no..."

Alana watched him emotionless and then looked back in the microscope. "I don't think it's the blood cells that are bad, but something in the blood stream turning them bad. The cure targets the black blood cells. Whatever has turned them bad sheds the blood cell and finds a new one when threatened."
