Kara's eyes grew wide and her hand flew to her mouth as a strangled sob escaped her lip as she stared at the match to her own charm bracelet. "Jenny..." It turns out that somewhere in her heart she hadn't completely accepted the death of her best friend but seeing the bloodied charm bracelet reality hit her hard. She took it in shaking hands and she stared at it for a long time before she fell to her knees, clutching it to her chest as she screamed out a sob.
Hayden hurried over and looked at Kai. "What happened?"

Kai considered not telling him, but it would be better for him to say than for her. "It was her best friend's bracelet. They have matching ones." He sat next to her and rubbed her back. "She wanted you to find it. It was shoved in that crack in the wall. She wanted you to have it." Kai felt sadness fall over him as he saw how much those two friends cared for each other.

Kara nodded between screamed sobs as she clutched the bracelet desperately. "JENNY! JENNY!!!!" She screamed her best friends name over and over like maybe it could bring her back.
Hayden looked at the broken Kara, his eyes wide with horror, sadness, and anger. "Those bastards..." He mumbled. "I'll kill 'em."
Kara just continued to clutch the bracelet, two rivers of tears running down her face as she called for her best friend. A call that she knew would never be answered.

Kai wasn't fueled by anger like Hayden but was not overcome with sadness like Kara. Instead he just felt the need to make all of this right. The pain Kara feels is more than most ever suffer in their hole lives. "I wish I could make this right."
"Hayden, take her outside. I will continue searching." Kai got up and continued looking.

Hayden nodded, knowing that now was not the time to go to war with Kai. He gently knelt down next to Kara and put a gentle hand on her back. "Hey... Come on... let's get you outside..." Pretty much having to lift her trembling, sobbing form off the ground he gently guided her out the door and to a log where he sat her down and kept an arm around her as she cried her heart out.

Kai looked and looked, knowing Kara was outside crying. He looked in every crack and crevice. He didn't find anything else. The people who took care of the bodies were through besides the two things they found.
Kai walked outside empty handed. He looked at Hayden and Kara, seeing how they were. He wanted to get to the air capital as fast as he could. He felt that something was off.

Kara looked up from where she had slumped against Hayden, too weak from crying to keep herself up anymore, she was still sniffling and clutching the bracelet. "K-Kai..." Her voice was so sad and fragile, like a small child afraid of every turn.
Hayden looked up at him as he held Kara gently but sturdy in his arms.

Kai went and sat by them, and slowly shifted Kara into his arms. "Shh. It is okay. You are going to be okay." He soothed out her long hair, growing to enjoy that habit.

Kara leaned into him, her hands clutching his shirt as she let out small, weak sobs and rested her head on his shoulder.
Hayden watched how the two worked together, his eyes analyzing again. He stood and mouthed to Kai. "I'm gonna pack up our stuff." Before heading off.

Kai watched Hayden then turned his attention to Kara. He pulled the hair from her face to keep it from sticking to her tears then whipped the tears away. "Oh, Kara." And he just held her, happy to be there for her, but felt the sadness taking pieced of him every time she cried. It was like she was giving him her grief.

Kara clung to him weakly, and saying between sniffles. "I'm... sorry... promised I'd... be strong..."

"And you are. You're being strong. A weaker person would have stabbed themselves with a fish bone a long time ago." He smiled at the reference. "You didn't let anyone down, you are strong." He gave her an encouraging smile.

Kara felt new tears slip out at his kind encouragement and she wrapped her arms around him. "You're what's keeping me strong Kai. I don't know what I'd do without you..."

Kai hugged her back. "And I you." Without her, he wouldn't be here. He would have died fighting for the earth bender's lives in that cabin. If she weren't so in touch with her powers and her need for nature, they would both be dead. He found it symbolic that they would have either died because of each other or lived because of each other.
He knew his feeling for her were growing with ever touch and every time he held her. He didn't want that complication with Hayden after what happened with River. But he didn't know if he could stop it now.

Kara hugged him silently for a long time, he only knew she'd fallen when her arms fell limp and dropped to her sides as she leaned on him.

Kai loved the feel of her in his arms and could have stayed that way forever. But then she fell asleep and he knew that they had spent too much time hugging in the woods. Kara what hurt emotionally, so maybe they could travel lightly today to allow her time to heal.
Kai got up, carrying Kara in his arms. He assumed she would be too tired to wake up and found Hayden.
"She fell asleep. I think we can make some progress today, I'll just carry her." Kai whispered to Hayden.

Hayden looked over at Kara's tear stained sleeping face, his eyes filled with sympathy. He nodded to Kai and whispered back. "Then I'll carry the stuff, if your arms ever get tired you can switch off with me." He gathered up the tent and the supplies and Kara's bag.

"Okay." Kai said. He knew she would wake up after a while of being bounced around in his arms.
They traveled away from the cabin and up some hills. They were slowly getting higher and higher up the mountain.

Kara slept deeply for about an hour then slowly began to wake up, she groggily opened her eyes and looked up, blushing as she saw herself being carried by Kai. "K-Kai? What's going on?"
Hayden answered for him. "You fell asleep and we thought it would be a good idea to keep moving while you slept so you didn't wear yourself out. You seemed pretty exhausted already."
Kara looked over at him then back up at Kai, still blushing slightly then felt the bracelet in her hand and took in a shaky gasp as she clutched it tighter.

Kai paused. His arms were killing him. He knew he could have given her to Hayden but he felt like it was his responsibility to take her.
He looked at her and her cheeks were red from a blush. "Do you think you can walk, or would you like to rest?" He looked into her eyes.

Kara looked down, suddenly embarrassed. "I-I can walk..."
Hayden watched this and felt a kind of... possessiveness in him but he stayed back, knowing the last thing she needed right now was more to think about.

Kai sat her down slowly and once she was on her feet Kai's arms dropped from how tired they were. "It won't be much longer until it gets dark. Does anyone know where the capital for the air tribe actually is?" Kai looked off in the distance not seeing anything.

Hayden spoke. "It's at the peak of the mountain. Most air benders just fly there which is why it's a good place for them. That way if they do get attacked the soldiers would be too tired from climbing to do much damage."
Kara stared at her best friends bracelet for a long time then took a deep breath and slid it onto her other wrist. She then looked at Kai with how tired he was. "Are you ok? I'm sorry. I'm too heavy to carry for that long..."

"No, I'm just too weak to carry something that light that long." He chuckled. "I'm fine, we can get further before we stop for the night."

Kara nodded and took her bags from Hayden and began to climb the mountain. Her hand absentmindedly holding Jenny's bracelet as it rested on her wrist.
