How do you make a successful roleplay topic?

It's pretty simple, really. Make sure your idea is compelling and original, and your role play will do well.

Follow through with it.  Don't write a RP and expect it to take off on its own.  If you have one other person RPing and you're sad that no one else is joining, don't wait for others to join--RP with the person that you have.  When others see that you're having fun, they will want to join you.

I disagree with Cyrus. You could have two sentences of setting, no character, and a crap RP style; and still come out with an epic thread. A topic being compelling helps, and popularity helps more, but unless you really enjoy your own work, there's no point. I've made hundreds of solo topics just because I had an idea I wanted to get out. It all starts with you, everyone else will fall into place as things move along.
