Kara was looking at the ground, her fish left mostly untouched. "What's the point...? My whole tribe is gone... my whole family... what's the point of trying to go on or do anything... maybe I should just join them..." As she said this she stared at a particularly sharp fish bone.

Kai went over to her and sat in front of her. He pushed up her chin to force her to hold eye contact. "To join them will make their death meaningless. It will be the end of our world because you want to be selfish. I don't want to be mean, but killing yourself to be with you family would be selfish and weak. I don't think that is what you want, you are just to grief ridden to see it."

She stared at him, tears rushing to her eyes. "But... my parents... my brother... my best friend... everyone is gone... what do I have left...?"

He is not one to mope and did not like this attitude. "You have the rest of the world. If you don't like, no one else does. You now have the whole world. You can never replace family, but you do have people who will treat you like it. You also have me now. No matter how much you will want to get rid of me, your stuck. I can't just leave you now that you have the best warrior of the water tribe. It would be too difficult to replace me." He gave her a joking smile in hopes to cheer her up.

Kara looked at him and gave him a small smile. "Thank you..." She said quietly as she wiped the tears from her eyes.

"Anytime." He got up and looked to the surface. "Prepare yourself." Kai started moving their bubble to the surface. Once the were on dry ground, he started out. "Kara have you been to the capital before?"

Kara shook her head as she followed after him. "No I haven't."

Kai smiled. "Great, we will celebrate both of our first times there." He took a quick pace, keeping an eye open for danger. He has not been a certified warrior long. You can only take up duty when you turn eighteen and Kai's birthday was a few months ago. He had one other task before this one and it consisted of him escorting and water tribe member through town as she took important papers to city hall. They just did not want Kai walking around saying that his first task was watching the most dangerous cabin known. To bring this tangent full circle, he has never been to the capital because his life has been training and no one had gotten around to bringing Kai there.

Kara tried to keep up with Kai's fast pace but found it difficult. "Um... hey... can you slow down a little?" She asked after a while, panting.

Kai looked back at Kara who was panting and a laugh escaped him. "Sorry." He slowed his pace to match hers. "How adapt are you at using your earth bending?" He asked because he needed to know if she protect herself.

Kara smiled slightly. "I was the top of my class. I was just a few months away from becoming a full earth bender, and then I would have taken over the tribe from... my father."

Kai nodded. His uncle is the leader of the water tribe and his cousin Rain is meant to take over, but the tribe still treats him like a leader. They only way he would obtain the High Priest position is if his uncle, dad, and his cousin died. He did not want that to happen, especially since he loves what he does. Kai loves to water bend and protecting the people of the kingdom is what he has always wanted to do with his life.
"I'm sorry to hear that. It seems that fate has a different path in mind for you." Kai looked around, birds were chirping and he could hear water in the distance. They were crossing into water territory. They were almost to the kingdom.

Kara nodded, not saying much.

Kai stopped, he knew what we coming. He heard the footsteps and then seen the water warrior. "Who are you and why are you here?" Neptune said customarily, before he saw Kai's face.
"Kai, you're alive." Neptune ran over to Kai and gave him a hug. "Wait, how are you alive."
Kai looked at Neptune, he is a tall blonde water bender of average skill. He was Kai's friend when they were younger, but their two year's difference caused them to grow apart with age.
"I cannot tell you. I have things I need to do. I am going to the Kingdom, so I'm just passing through." Kai stepped in front of Kara, hoping Neptune would continue to not notice her.
Neptune began to glare at Kai. "Who is she? Is she an earth bender? Why is she with you? How did you live?" He asked accusatory.
Kai rolled his eyes. Of coarse he would be accused. "I'm trying to do all of this in secrete. She went for a walk at the perfect moment. I fallowed her and protected her. I'm trying to protect her. Now let me through and keep all of this a secrete."
Neptune crossed his arms. "No. I can't let you through." He said stubbornly.
Kai moaned, aggravated.

"Um... excuse me?" Kara said as she stepped out from behind Kai to address the boy. "I'm really sorry if we're disturbing you but... I lost my home... I lost everyone... All I have left is Kai and if he needs to do something in the Kingdom then I want to do what I can to help him get there. So could you please let us through?"

Kai looked at Kara. He was not expecting her to speak up, but maybe she was boisterous when she wasn't grieving.
Neptune looked at her then at Kai. "Fine, but I will tell your father."
Kai just shrugged. He knew his father would see things the way he did and keep everything a secrete.
"Come on." Kai said to Kara, heading in the direction of the Kingdom. "We need answers at the Kingdom more than anything. We need to find out why people were killing Earth benders. And most importantly who it is planning this. I don't know if we will find all the answers there, but it is a start."

Kara nodded then waved back to Neptune. "Thank you!" She called as she hurried after Kai. "I don't understand it, these people should know that getting rid of the earth benders would be like getting rid of the earth itself, there would be nothing to keep everything stable anymore."

Kai thought on what Kara said. "We need people of each tribe to keep the world stable. The people doing this are idiots. There is nothing to gain from killing all of one tribe. What would be the benefit?" He was just itching to figure all of this out, and to get his hands of the person responsible for killing so many.

Kara nodded at his statement but she wasn't so sure... someone stupid wouldn't be capable of a feat like this, she thought that there was something more behind all this. They continued on.

The forest slowly changed to a dirt road and the road lead to a great wall. At the wall people passed in and out freely. There were guards watching people but not stopping them. This was the tricky part. If you saw Kara with her Earth tribe clothing, they were sure to get stopped. Kai took off one of his layers and handed the shirt to Kara. "Put this on. We can't be noticed by the guards."

Kara nodded and slid the over sized shirt over her head and tied it tighter around her waist in an attempt to make it look normal. She looked at him, her eyes skeptical. "So... how do I look?"

Kai looked at Kara with his shirt on. "It suits you. But it's missing something." He took off his signature headband and put it on her. "There, the look is complete." He smiled at her. He was sad to not have the head band on, but he there were going to get new clothes if they make it into the Kingdom and he could no longer wear it.
They progressed toward the gates casually, trying to blend into the crowd. They crossed the entrance and the huge city looked imposing compared to the life Kai has lived. He stopped in the street to admire it, but someone ran into him reminding him to not attract attention. "It's huge." He said to Kara.

Kara looked around in awe at the grand city, a little of the shadow lifting from her grief as she admired the tall buildings and all the shops. "Yeah, it is." She said with a smile.

Kai and Kara continued on until they were out of sight of the guards. Kai finally relaxed and looked at the shops. "We need clothes." He said out loud. He spotted a clothing shop down the street. "There."
They went to the shop. "I'm getting fire tribe clothes. You get any tribe you want." He looked around and noticed the lack there of of earth tribe clothes. The news must have spread quickly about the attack. He needs to keep his ears open for ideal gossip.

Kara nodded and looked around, with her light hair coloring it would probably be best to go with air tribe apparel. She picked out an outfit in her size then suddenly remembered something. "I don't have any money..."
