SKYRIM - Review
-----
I thought I would give reviewing try so – here I am; writing up my first review. Since this is my first review I decided I would do it on the ‘RPG of all RPG’s:’ The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. This would have to be one of my favourite RPG games so, we shall review it!
Skyrim is next in line after Elder Scrolls: Oblivion; a big hit within the RPG market. Now, a new Elder Scrolls is in the making; Elder Scrolls online. ESO (Elder Scrolls Online) won’t only be an rpg, but an mmorpg, as you could most probably see in the title. Anyways, enough of this talk and more skyrim talk:
First Impressions:So, I have popped the Skyrim disc into my Xbox360 (Which is slowly dying – I got the red ring of death last month, but I ended up getting it fixed.) and wait for it to load and it’s taking a while… Okay I have started a new game in the world of Skyrim; a world of adventure and mystery! Quests and magic! Darkness and revenge! Ahem, so anyways; as I was saying; I have been placed into the world of Skyrim and it’s time to make my character. You can choose from a nord (human), elf, dark elf, imperian, khajiit (cat person) and a lizard person. Let’s go with: Dark Elf: A race excelled with magic. Well, I like magic therefore I think I will invest my character in magica (magic perks). I give myself big ears and a strange mouth, the name: Golemn and I am good to go. Once that is done and I am brought to… an execution. Okay; well isn’t this great; the game started off where I am seeing people’s heads being chopped off! Do I Really want to see this?
Well, before I go any further; I must say; the graphics are quite nice and pristine and the animations do look nice. There are some glitches in the animations which I have experienced… and trust me; there were some awkward ones. Overall my first impressions of the game have been set to a considerably high standard with a reasonable beginning and character customization; I am satisfied.
Gameplay:Okay; I (Golemn) lay my head on a chopping board and an axe is about to come down when… we hear a roar… the roar of a dragon. This is where things get a bit hectic; people running like crazy, houses burning around you; angry villagers. Bla, bla, bla; I think you have received my point. I have now got to escape this burning place so therefore; I have a companion I need to travel with who will guide me to FREEDOM! That didn’t sound weird at all… right? So far the game controls are reasonable and are easy to get used to. I haven’t encountered any combat yet so I will judge those controls later.
As I escape this burning village; I find my first piece of equipment; mage robes! It feels like Christmas! (Well, this is better than walking around with rags on.) These robes provide me with 30% better magica (magic) generation; I will be the master of magic! Golemn (my character) has now escaped the village and has been told to continue to another village (should be safe.) This is when I am attacked by a pack of snarling wolves. Oh what fun! Time to put my powers to use. I flick to the menu and choose fire. I blast the wolves into oblivion, setting their fur on fire. Golemn = 3, Wolves = 0. I think I win. I now have the option to search these creatures for food, ingredients, gold, weapons, clothes, etc. The more powerful the animal; the better the reward. So; I search the wolf to get some wolf hides and ten gold coins (I am rich.)
That’s the beginning of the game; you may want to call it a prologue or such. I enjoyed it and I can’t really point out anything bad except for some glitches with animations. But; as you further develop into the game you start to notice people start to sound similar or look similar. This really annoys me; one of the blacksmith on the game sound exactly like this werewolf dude!? And then I see a shop owner who looks exactly like an inn keeper… argh, I just don’t like that kind of stuff; at least adjust their voices and appearances a little bit.
Storyline:The story line of Skyrim is pretty simple; the dragons are returning and they want to take over Skyrim and the dragonborn is the last hope because they can gobble up souls but Dovahkin is annoying because it is really, really, really hard to get to him unless you are at a high level. That’s basically it; you go around slaying dragons as you do engaging (some engaging) sidequests. I would recommend you to do lots of side quests before engaging into main quests; some parts are hard…
Overall; the storyline is decent and there are some nice; engaging side quests, especially the ones in the dark brotherhood. (Those would have to be my favourite
)
Overall comment:Skyrim was a fun experience I frequently talk about with my brother and friends; always trying to do every side quests and be the best assassin in Skyrim. There are so many features to delve in to; the possibilities are endless!
The game has received many awards as Game of the Year and RPG of the century. Some say that Skyrim has been the best RPG to be around. I haven’t really stated many bad things about the game here; I will that for you to do.
